Gratitude Part 2

“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer

We are entering the holidays and with it comes  the reflections of the year, the ups and the downs, the laughs and the tears. This year, friends, has had so many ups and downs especially, these last few months. You know when life is so hard you don’t even cry because tears would just be a waste of the energy that you have to expend somewhere else? That is me. Sitting here in yet another appointment I can say with peace in my heart, I’m ok without. Even more, I am grateful for it.

Each morning I wake up craving Jesus because I know without Him I would crumble at the end of the day. This year has involved so many changes: moving to a new place, trying to make new friends, feeling left out and lonely, looking for a job, feeling like I’m fighting waves crashing over me each day and at the end of everyday I know that I couldn’t have made it. And now in this low valley I am learning what true worship is…the ability to be reminded that God remains the same always.

My verse I’ve clung to during this time is 2 Corinthians 6:10. Paul has endured so much at this point: beatings, mistreatment, etc. But in the life of a Christian, it is all worth it. We are co-laborers with the Holy Spirit, as sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as being poor yet making many rich, and my favorite, as having nothing yet possessing everything.
